Australian and Northern Rivers-based Mia Forrest is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice is a testament to her reverence for nature. Her work, deeply intertwined with the natural world, often incorporates biodata sources that re-emerge as data visualization and materialization. Her aim? Eliciting new and meaningful approaches to observing, processing, and experiencing the natural world through a clever mix of technology and art.
Mia utilizes digital tools, generative processes (both computer and analogue), and biodata to create artworks across various media, including digital, dry media, and textiles. Summer, part of Arab Bank Switzerland’s collection, is no exception to this process. The artwork combines bio-data, audio, and data sonification, forming a generative piece that creates abstract impressionistic landscapes that serve as an intimate collaboration between nature’s intrinsic energy and the artist’s dedication to nature as a muse.
Mia’s work has been exhibited in prestigious venues such as Sotheby’s, Unit London, Vellum LA, and the Tweed Regional Gallery in Australia. She has also been recognized by several awards, including the Wollumbin Art Award’s Emerging Artist Award (2022), the Yarilla Arts and Museum STILL: National Still Life Award (2023), and the York Botanic Art Prize (2023).
