Robert Alice is a trained art historian, artist, curator, writer and NFT pioneer. Alice’s artistic work and writing take inspiration from blockchains and their direct and indirect histories.
In 2021, Alice curated ” Natively Digital ” at Sotheby’s, the first NFT auction at a major auction house, where their work has been exhibited.
From June to October 2023, Robert Alice presented Babel at the Monnaie de Paris Museum, a unique exhibition serving as a dialogue between France’s oldest institution and the cutting-edge technology represented by NFT art.
Taking inspiration from Jorge Luis Borges’ 1941 short story, Library of Babel, Alice’s Babel uses Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) AI trained on a custom dataset of original blueprints from the Monnaie de Paris museum, and a library of blockchain patents, diagrams and infographic found in public archives, to produce natively digital works, exhibited as physical prints.
More recently, Taschen, the luxury art book publisher, commissioned Alice to publish the first major 600-page art history of NFTs.
Robert Alice has lectured internationally on NFTs, co-producing the first academic conference on NFTs at the University of Oxford in 2022, and is a guest lecturer on NFTs at Central Saint Martins, London; Columbia University, New York and Christie’s Education.
