Lara Zankoul is a multidisciplinary visual artist born in Lebanon in 1987. A self-taught photographer who didn’t seriously pick up a camera until the age of 21, Lara has established a global reputation with her unique surreal style of crafting conceptual images that portray invisible concepts without any digital manipulation.
Her photographs have been featured in the Guy Hepner Gallery in New York and the Heist Gallery in London, while her work gained official recognition as a Finalist for the Hasselblad Masters 2021 and winner of the third edition of Broncolor’s Gen Next.
Featuring one of the painstakingly constructed life-size sets that are becoming her trademark, the single day of shooting for the Feminine Side, part of the Arab Bank Art Collection, required months of meticulous planning. Rigorous, conscientious preparation and the soft focus of Lara’s lens bring the viewer once again into a world of contrasting perspectives and duality.
Lara maintains a busy schedule, balancing her teaching workshops with global commissions such as ‘The Nymphs’, a characteristically dream-like shoot that featured in the October 2023 edition of Harper’s Bazaar Arabia.
‘I have a keen interest in portraying invisible concepts: emotions, psychology and all that is related to the soul.’ Lara Zankoul
