Sarah has been immersed in art since childhood, from regular visits to the Whitney Museum to liberal arts classes at Columbia University. This early curiosity and interest stayed with her as she pursued business studies at the University of Pennsylvania. What began as a simple photography class, taken to better use her camera, became a turning point. Photography, as Meyohas later described it, became a way to capture, explore, and unlock the world.
Her entry into the MFA program at Yale coincided with the rise of Bitcoin, bringing together her dual backgrounds and prompting a deeper reflection on the notion of value. What if a currency itself could be an artwork? This led to the creation of Bitchcoin, a cryptocurrency backed by physical artworks, challenging the speculative nature of cryptocurrency and the intangible value of art.
Building on her longstanding interests, Meyohas launched Stock Performance, a project where she bought and sold stocks, tracing their performance lines onto canvases in real time. Her fascination with datasets and the world around us later culminated in Cloud of Petals, a short film that combines 100,000 individually photographed rose petals and AI to generate new, unique digital petals – blurring the lines between the organic, the artificial, and the poetic.
A conceptual artist whose practice considers the nature and capabilities of emerging technologies in contemporary society, Meyohas creates an intelligible visual language to articulate the systems and technologies that increasingly influence our world.
Meyohas has been exhibited in New York at the Rockefeller Center, and the New Museum of Contemporary Art at the Barbican Centre, London, the Jameel Arts Center in Dubai, and the Ming Contemporary Art Museum, Shanghai. Her work is also in the collection of The Centre Pompidou, Paris. She has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Vice, and Artforum, and has appeared on CNBC, PBS, and CBC. Her film Cloud of Petals has been screened at various film festivals around the world, including the Slamdance Film Festival and the Locarno Film Festival.
