Tyler Hobbs

Tyler Hobbs is an Austin-based visual artist who bridges the worlds of traditional fine art and computational creativity. By combining years of experience in painting with his skills and training in programming, he has transitioned from a purely traditional mode of creating to an algorithmically focused artistic practice. Primarily working with custom algorithms, plotters, and paint, Hobbs creates work that explores the relationship between computational aesthetics and the natural world. His work balances the rigid precision of computer-generated structures with the organic, unpredictable qualities found in nature. Through this generative approach to art making, he explores the possibilities of creation at scale and the powers of emergence.

His work has been exhibited internationally, including solo shows at Pace Gallery in New York City and Unit in London. Notable public institutions holding his work include the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Museum of Art + Light. Hobbs holds a BS in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin.
